Collie Eye Anomaly

Overview

Collie Eye Anomaly is a congenital, bilateral eye disease in dogs involving the retina, sclera and choroid. Symptoms can be mild or they can be so severe that CEA causes blindness.

Shetland Sheepdogs, Smooth and Rough Collies, Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, Lancashire Heelers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are also susceptible to this disease.

Treatment

Unfortunately there is no known treatment but there are genetic tests available that can detect the presence of collie eye anomaly in puppies.
