Discospondylitis in Dogs

 

Overview

Discospondylitis is an infection of the spinal vertebrae and intervertebral discs. It has been referred to as a form of arthritis of the spine with narrowing of the involved disc spaces.

 

Treatment

The most common treatment of discospondylitis in dogs is long-term antibiotic therapy for four to six weeks. This treatment is usually aimed at the staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Ultimately joint fusion surgery may be required in addition to antibiotics in order to correct the problem.
