Ear Infections in dogs are very common, particularly in puppies. Most ear infections in adults are caused by bacteria and yeast, though ear mites are a common cause in puppies.
Symptoms might include scratching and rubbing or discomfort of the ears. You may notice an abnormal odor or discoloration in the ear canal.
Bacteria and yeast cause most ear infections in adult dogs and ear mites are the most common cause in puppies. In severe cases some dogs will suffer from chronic ear infections that require surgical correction.
Treatment includes daily cleaning, antibiotics, anti-yeast or anti-inflammatory depending on the type of infection and severity.
