Familial Shar-Pei Fever in Dogs

Familial Shar-Pei Fever is a condition in which your Shar-Pei suffers from recurring fever and swelling of the knee joints. Learn more about this disease here. Familial Shar-Pei Fever is classified as a hereditary disorder.

If your Shar-Pei is undergoing pain and fever responsive to NSAIDS they may be treated on an outpatient basis. Shar-Pei's showing anorexia, fever, lameness, vomiting, diarrhea, fluid in the abdomen, or bile flow blockage of the liver will probably need to be treated on an inpatient basis. Shar-Pei's who suffer from organ failure, blood clots or renal vein thrombosis need emergency care.

Depending on the underlying cause, symptoms and health of your Shar-Pei treatment may include a combination of antibiotics, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, and blood transfusions. Fresh frozen plasma can also be an option and severe cases may receive human serum albumin transfusions.

Unfortunately there is no cure for Familial Shar-Pei Fever but with treatment and therapy symptoms can be managed.
