Introduction

Launched in 2019, Prudent Pet is one of the newest brands to enter the fast growing American pet insurance market. The company offers both standard, accident and illness coverage as well as wellness care coverage. You can also customize your deductible, reimbursement and annual limits to fit your desired monthly budget.

Coverage

Prudent Pet offers two insurance options for dogs and cats and you can add a wellness plan to either option.

Comprehensive Coverage – This is the most popular coverage option. It covers any veterinary bills related to accidents, illnesses, hereditary disorders and congenital conditions. This is the coverage option we recommend for any pet parent.

Accident-Only Coverage – This is a less popular option because it only covers veterinary bills related to accidents. We don’t recommend accident-only coverage for most pet parents because it excludes illness coverage.

Preventative Care Coverage – This coverage option coverage wellness related expenses such as annual exams, vaccinations and wellness tests. This option is a great way to round out your coverage.

Note: This chart is a general guide only. Pet insurance coverage for both insurance and wellness vary by company so it's important to review your policy prior to enrollment to ensure you fully understand what is covered and not covered by your plan.

Price

Like any pet insurance provider, Prudent Pet rates prices based on your pets breed, age and where you live. Some breeds are more expensive to insure than others because they are more prone to health issues. For example, a Boxer is susceptible to hereditary disorders than a mixed breed dog so they are more expensive to insure. Same is true for older pets, which tend to have more health issues than younger pets.

Insurance

The average price for a standard accident and illnesses plan ranges between $36 to 61 per month.

Wellness

Insurance plans are priced based on your pet’s breed and age, but wellness plans are standard. Prudent pet offers two plans that you can add to any standard insurance plan.

  • Basic – $9.95 per month – $250/year in annual benefits
  • Prime – $24.95 per month – $450/year in annual benefits
